Slippery Shrimp Wonton

Serving Size: 2

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1/2 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 tablespoon rice wine vinegar *
  • 1 tablespoon sugar**
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for deep frying***
  • 1 green onion thinly diced
  • 14 pieces Ohana bite size wonton

Directions:

In a small bowl, whisk together the first 10 ingredients. Set aside.

In a medium size wok, heat oil over high heat.  Once the oil is hot, lower the flame to medium and add Ohana’s frozen wontons. Continually flip the wontons in the oil, until all sides are a golden brown (about 7 minutes). Remove the wontons with a slotted spoon. Set aside.

Drain excess oil. Return the wontons to the wok and add sauce. Bring the sauce to a boil. When the mixture becomes a thick, syrupy consistency, remove from heat.  Add the green onion, toss, and serve immediately.

Enjoy!

* If you do not have rice wine vinegar, you can easily substitute it with another 1/2 tablespoon of white vinegar

**If you like, you may also substitute the sugar, with 2 teaspoons of Agave Nectar’s All Natural Sweetener

*** For a healthier option, instead of deep frying the wontons, pan sear the wontons in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Once golden brown, just add the sauce straight into the pan.
