Sweet and Sour Chicken Wonton

Serving Size: 2

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon distilled white wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon sugar*
  • 4 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 3 cups vegetable oil**
  • 1/4 of a white onion cut into chunks
  • 1/2 of a red bell pepper cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cup of sweetened pineapple chunks in juice
  • 1/4 cup of pineapple juice
  • 14 pieces Ohana bite size Chicken and Pineapple wonton

Directions:

In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, vinegar, sugar, water, pineapple juice, and cornstarch.  Set aside.

In a medium size wok, heat oil over high heat.  Once the oil is hot, lower the flame to medium and add Ohana’s frozen wontons.  Continually flip the wontons in the oil, until all sides are a golden brown (about 7 minutes).  Remove the wontons with a slotted spoon.  Set aside.

Drain excess oil, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the wok.  Over medium heat, add the onion, bell pepper and pineapple.  Constantly stir, until the onion turns translucent (about 4 minutes).  Return the wontons to the wok.  Add sauce, toss, and bring to a boil.  When the mixture becomes a thick, syrupy consistency, remove from heat.  Serve immediately.

Enjoy!

* If you like, you may also substitute the sugar, with 3 teaspoons of Agave Nectar’s All Natural Sweetener

** For a healthier option, instead of deep frying the wontons, pan sear the wontons in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Once golden brown, just add the sauce straight into the pan
